Funerals, Memorials, Weddings, Vow Renewals, Namings and other Family Ceremonies
I’m Michael Gurner – I’m a joyful and caring family celebrant with a passion for storytelling and a love of celebration – I work with families and friends to craft and deliver ceremonies that celebrate lives and commemorate life events.
Everyone’s story deserves to be told, and I love to tell those stories with openness, honesty, humour and a sparkle in my eye. Every one of us is unique, and the ceremonies that are held to commemorate each stage in our lives should reflect that.
Why Michael Gurner?
In recent years, I have crafted and delivered hundreds of celebrations and ceremonies of all kinds, however I was originally asked by some dear friends to be their wedding celebrant before I even knew that a celebrant was something you could be. I take that as a positive sign 🙂
I love to listen – hearing the stories of peoples’ lives is a great honour, and years of working as a training consultant means I’m good at asking the ‘right’ questions to uncover the sometimes hidden elements that will help to tell your unique and authentic story
I love to write – I have a passion for writing and storytelling that ranges from newsletters and trainings to songs and poetry and I love to hone and craft words until not a single syllable is wasted.
I love to perform – I’m a singer, a musician and a poet, happy in front of large crowds or small personal gatherings, all honed by years working as a trainer and speaker in the corporate world.
And I’l do it all with compassion, care, a sense of humour and a sparkle in my eye.
“On behalf of the family we would like to express our most heartfelt thanks for the wonderful service you gave for my father. It meant a lot to us all and it gave us comfort that we could celebrate his life in a meaningful way, we feel that he would of approved of his farewell service. “
“I wanted the funeral service to be both a remembrance and celebration and to reflect the woman that I spent over forty years with as my lover, best friend and soulmate. I think we achieved that. I have heard nothing but praise for a service that everyone appears to have felt provided a true reflection of the sister, family member and/or friend that they knew.“
“I just want to say thank you for the service today. It was extremely hard but you made it as good as it could be. I have had many messages saying what a lovely service it was and how it captured the person they knew. My dad said it was the best funeral he’d been to for years, and unfortunately he has had to attend quite a few, including my mum’s. “
Bringing the local touch wherever you are
I’m based in Milton Keynes, but like to travel – I regularly carry out services in Bedford, Northampton, Aylesbury, Buckingham, Dunstable, Luton, Oxford, Cambridge, Rugby, Suffolk and across the UK – for weddings or blessings it’s not uncommon for me to travel abroad, so do give me a call if you’re interested in me supporting you.
Making Conversations Personal
Our conversations can take place in person (pandemic permitting), or via Zoom, WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype or just over the telephone to keep everyone safe and allow people to join us from wherever they are – I’m very experienced in helping those less familiar with the technologies, so please don’t worry.
The Fellowship of Independent Celebrants
I’m fully trained and accredited by The Fellowship of Independent Celebrants (FOIC) and have full professional indemnity and liability insurance. Within the fellowship, I have a wide network of highly skilled celebrants who I call on for support and advice, and whom I’m proud to consider my friends and colleagues.
